With all of the technology today's homes feature, the amount of cabling pulled in any high-tech home far exceeds the old standards. Where once only electrical and phone cables, and maybe cable TV, would be installed, today's homes feature computer networking, distributed audio/video, home theater, security, lighting control, and home automation systems, each frequently requiring their own cable runs. It is from this fact that structured cable systems arose. Structured cabling uses bundled cable, or plastic wrapped cable sets, to enable the maximum connectivity with the minimum space and management needs.
